The Charleston-based organization, People Against Rape, in partnership with MUSC’s National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center and the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program, is sponsoring the 2013 Take Back the Night event, themed “Shatter the Silence. Stop the Violence.” It will take place April 4, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Brittlebank Park. The event is open to the public and we invite all residents of the tri-county area to come out and make a stand against sexual assault in our community.
Participants will assemble at Brittlebank Park where local experts will provide brief commentary on the importance of raising awareness about and eliminating sexual violence in our community. The event will include a variety of arts-related projects, including recognizing a poetry competition winner and other events encouraging creative expression about the vital need to stop violent sexual crimes.
Along with the serious message about making our communities safe, there will be activities celebrating the strength of survivors of sexual assault and a message of hope and joy about the resiliency of the human spirit.
