Happy Noodle Year

Whew! What a fantastic year 2014 has been---and 2015 is looking good, too! Thanks for all of the support and encouragement. In the face of a gloomy, self-destructive world, music and community are my greatest defense and my greatest source of hope. Thank you all!
Have you got plans for New Year's Eve? I'm playing with She Goes He Goes at good ol' O'Hara and Flynn's winebar.  We'll be there on Wednesday, and playing from 9 'til midnight. It's a cozy, some say romantic spot, that's down on Meeting street, in the roaring heart of Charleston. If you are out and about downtown, and need a free spot, come on down! We'll be having a party and hope you'll join us!

Big Jim Allen at the Jack of Cups!

Happy St. Pattie's Day...er Weekend!

Top o' the mornin' to ya! V-Tones will be be quite busy this weekend, so come on out and catch us if you can! We play lots of FREE shows, and entertain folks of all ages--we hope you enjoy what we do as much as we enjoy doing it for you! Whoopie! OK. Saturday, March 15th--Up on East Montague street, in the Park Circle neighbourhood of North Charleston you can find the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival--we're appearing outside of the Bar-B-Que Joint at 2pm. The Charleston Hot Shots appear before us (good friends and fellow ukulelians).
Then, Saturday night, we'll be at Prohibition (downtown Charleston, King Street) from 8-11pm for free music! We'll have Joel Hamilton with us for that show (Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise) as well as long time V-Tone Darbie Keck! Remember: Nobody does glamour like you!

Then Sunday, March 16th, join us as we judge an open talent show at the "Be  a Celebrity in Your Swamp" contest up at Cypress Gardens. Park admission is reasonable (they've got animals and boats and flowers, lovely tropic flowers)---after judging, we'll get up and play some music, too! That entire event is 1-6pm, but we play form 3-4ish. It's a nice day for Cypress Gardens, eh?
  Whew!

Teddy Bears' Picnic

V is for Volunteer! The V-Tones of Charleston are leading a marching mob for the Teddy Bears' Picnic at Hampton Park on Sunday, March 9th. We need you, big people and little people, to help us make some noise. Please grab your favorite stuffed animal and musical instrument (I especially enjoy the hand-made ones) and join us! The whole event starts at 1pm, but the parade is at 3pm. Yes, this is an event for kids! It's a whole bunch of fun, and it's FREE!

She Goes He Goes!

I play Banjo with the "She Goes, He Goes" band. We'll be at Prohibition on Wednesday, February 26th for the dance night, with a free lesson at 7pm, then live music from 8-11pm. Everybody is welcome! Big Fun!
Then, on Friday, February 28th, SGHG will be back at Seanachai (that's out on Maybank Highway, next to Mcsweeney's) from 8-11pm for a free show at this cozy little Irish  bar. Come on out, yall!

Dancing is going strong in Charleston!

Dancing is going strong in Charleston. Swing, Lindyhop, the Charleston, and all of the variations on these poplar dances can be found throughout the town. Saturday, February 15th, I'll be playing banjo with the New South Jazz Men as we play for the Charleston Swing Dance Association's dance. I'm not sure how much it costs, but I'm sure it is reasonable! We'll play from 8-11pm. It's at the Knights' of Columbus Hall on Calhoun street, across from Marion Square. Swing on by!

Then I'll be back with the Jazz Men as they play the Sunday morning brunch at High Cotton. That's 10am-2pm. There is a small dance floor, too! Wahoo!

Sunday night the V-Tones are at the Tin Roof for a Leukemia/Lymphoma fundraiser. We'll be playing a late night set (the earlier set is covered by the Flat Foot Floozies)--plus there is a Vintage fashion show and prizes! It all goes for a good cause. $10 at the door.

Monday night I'm back at the Elliotborough Minibar (Bogard street), for some chill cocktail music. Come on in and get cozy and warm.  7-9pm.

Wednesday night (feb. 19th) the V-Tones are presenting a night of Gypsy Jazz at Prohibition. They have a dance night every Wednesday there, with free lessons at 7pm, and live music starting at 8pm. We play 'til about 11pm, and the show is free! Prohibition is cool---good drinks and food and an awesome dance floor.

Saturday night (feb. 22nd) Jeff Narkiewicz and I will be performing at O'Hara and Flynn's wine bar on Meeting street. Another cozy little joint! This place is good for tourists and locals alike. 8-11pm. No cover.

Sunday the 23rd leads us to Tropical Swing night at the Charleston Ballroom Dance Club (1632 Ashley Hall road). The lesson starts at 6pm, live music from 7:30-9:30pm. We'll have the V-Tones with Kay Haun, Hula by Kathy Bach and music from the Charleston Hot Shots! $10 includes everything, $5 if you bring your ukulele. This is going to be great!

Whew!

4 shows on Valentine's Day!

Ah the ukulele---probably the most romantic instrument ever! On Valentine's Day I'll be doing my best to evoke the Global Eros with my tiny instrument (insert joke here). 9 am--bright and oily at the Elliotborough  Mini-bar for coffee and tunes (free). Then the lovely and talented Mz.Funville and I will perform at the Savannah House old folks' home for their afternoon concert. At 5:30pm some version of the V-Tones is opening for Sol Driven Train at the Palmetto Brewery (on Huger street, Charleston,SC)--that's got a cover charge, but will be a great show. SDT is so much fun! Then, Mz. Funville and I will perform as "The Amazing Mittens" at the mysterious and romantic O'Hara and Flynn's wine bar downtown on Meeting street. Whew!
